WHEN A ROOF BAR IS NOT A ROOF BAR?

We do receive many enquiries from customers stating that they have existing Roof Bars but do they?

Some have Roof Rails or Flush Rails.  Rails (Not Bars) that are fitted by the manufacturer.  These rails go from the front of the car to the rear of the vehicle.

For Roof Rails you could still feasibly fit a box on top when you really should have Roof Bars fitted on top of your Rails.

Doing this however creates it's own problems as you see below stopping you from taking it out into the roads.....

So a Roof Rail or Flush Rail always requires Roof Bars on top which will enable us to fit a box like the ones below.  Bars fitted on will go from left to right (Driver's side to Passenger side).  The box fits to the Bars, the bars fit to the rails (If you have rails):

BUT WAIT A MINUTE, I DON'T HAVE RAIL'S, CAN YOU STILL FIT ROOF BARS?

Yes.  Back in the late eighties, to fit your ‘Roof Rack’ you had two choices, was your car ‘guttered’ or ‘gutterless’?

Move forward 30 years and you now have around 800-1000 different fittings!

Now your average Roof Bars does not come as a one-piece equipment, rather than a three-piece Roof Bar.

You have:

1)      The straight ‘Bar’ (That your Roof Box will connect too).
2)      The ‘Foot Pack’ (This will connect to your Roof ‘Bar’)
3)      Finally, the ‘Kit’ (The ‘Kit’ connects your car to the ‘Foot Pack’).

+ 1)      The straight ‘Bar’ (That your Roof Box will connect too).

2)      The ‘Foot Pack’ (This will connect to your Roof ‘Bar’)

3)      Finally, the ‘Kit’ (The ‘Kit’ connects to the ‘Foot Pack’).

So, at Aberdeen Roof Box Hire we will stock your Bar and Foot Pack as standard.  The kit you need to check to see if it is 'stocked' or 'Non-stocked'.

With so many different kits we understandably do not stock them all, we do stock over 100 kits but do remember, not them all.

The kits we have are classed as ‘stock’, the ones that we do not are ‘Non-stocked’.  If a “Non-stocked’ kit is ordered specially in then it becomes, “Stocked”.

On average, if a “Non-Stocked” kit is ordered in this will be £10 more expensive than a “Stocked kit”.  The cost can vary for this depending on how quickly the kit is required.

If a brand-new kit is ordered, ideally this should be done well in advanced before your hire for several reasons:

1)      The cost would be cheaper as there is no rush in obtaining the kit.
2)      A Trial-Run fit can be done to be sure that there is a good fit.

Unfortunately, many customers do leave it by a booking a couple of days before they leave on their trip, by doing this they run the risk of:

1)      Increasing the cost as they have to pay extra carriage charges
2)      No trial fit to ensure that there are no issues with fitting on the day of hire.
